Nueces County –

County Commissioner Precinct 1

Top question asked: Are you a Republican or Democrat?

The honest answer is, I have been both at one time.  I was raised to be Democrat when I was younger as we were supporting family members that were running for office.

I then became a Republican when I became a business owner and I researched the difference between the two.

I consider myself to be a conservative independent.  I believe in having a manageable government.  I believe that the government should represent the voice of the community and people should have the freedom to choose what is best for themselves and their family.  I believe that the government should not be in competition with the private sector and should go back to being a maintenance program.  We need for them to take better care of our infrastructure, streets and maintaining our current assets.

Some people are confused because I am in support of protecting our water and resources from heavy industry users and from desalination plants being put into our bays.  After much research and hearing from scientists and engineers, this will detrimentally impact our sea life, if it doesn’t destroy it entirely, and our way of life here.

Why are you running?

In the past, I have made two runs for city council without success and because I refused to take special interest contributions.

I have decided to now run for Nueces County Commissioner Precinct 1 because my opponent who has been in local politics for 30+ years has been coordinating with the Port of Corpus Christi commissioners and they are proposing to put FIVE (5) desalination plants IN OUR Corpus Christi Bay.  This will one; destroy our sealife; Two; destroy our way of life and here and destroy tourism.

We need candidates who aren’t receiving dividends from ExxonMobil and EOG Resources (formally known as Enron).  Will he ever vote on our side if he is funded by heavy industry?

I will not cower to industry or the Port of Corpus Christi.  I will fight to protect our water, as the minority user at 16%, and hold industry accountable to pay fair water rates and to pay their taxes.  I AM NOT AGAINST INDUSTRY.  They just need to be better partners with and for the community.

It’s time for government accountability.  It’s time to ask the tough questions.  And it’s time to hold corporations accountable that have been subsidized by the community for three decades.

Please vote Rachel Caballero for Nueces County Commissioner Precinct 1.

Rachel Ann Caballero:

I will fight for and represent our US Constitutional rights.
I will fight to PROTECT our community and our resources.
I will hold the government and its employ accountable and to be fiscally responsible with our tax dollars.
I will protect the access to our beaches (pedestrian and vehicular) for avid beach goers, surfers, fishermen/women, and tourists.
I will make sure our public safety is funded and is accommodating the community need.
It’s time for industry and corporation accountability and their participation of their tax responsibility to the community.

Our Corpus Christi Police Officers lost one of their brothers and we lost a good officer.

It feels like many of us have had a lot of deaths as of late.

Let's be kinder and more patient with one another. Let's pray for his family and his work family.

Thank you for your service and ultimate sacrifice Officer Kyle Hicks. 🙏🏼♥️

There is a GoFundMe for the family and I've been assured the city, the police department and officers union are also doing what they can for the family. Thank God for this. 🙏🏼♥️

Gooood morning! Happy FriYay!!!

What an amazing showing last night at the TCEQ meeting!!! We showed up and we forced them to HEAR us!!!

HIGHLIGHTS:
We had approximately 7 attorneys speak AGAINST the permit.
We had several qualified environmental experts speak AGAINST the permit.
CCA Texas - Coastal Conservation Association spoke AGAINST the permit.
We had SEVERAL of our Islander students studying environmental science speak AGAINST the permit.
The awesome Dr. Isabel Araiza & For the Greater Good marched in with signs and a huge group of people that was SO SO moving, spoke AGAINST the permit.
So many environmental organizations were there AGAINST the permit.

There were approximately 100 people that gave public comment. 80 comments were AGAINST the permit and 20 were in favor. Of the 20, some were paid by the PAC (political action committee) "Texas Desal Members" who were recruited to speak in favor and monetarily compensated.

The meeting ended at about 11:30. When we tell you guys we do this for the love, safety and protection of our community we mean it. MANY of us are NOT getting paid.

LOWLIGHTS:
We could not keep the attention of CWW Drew Molly who's only had this job for 3 months. Everything was more important that LISTENING to the people who pay him.
City of Corpus Christi city manager Peter Zanoni & one of his assistant city managers laughed at comments throughout.
Boy scout leaders spoke in favor of the destruction of our Corpus Christi Bay.
At-Large City Councilman/County Commissioner candidate Mike Pusley signed up for public comment and then chickened out.
Disgraced, one term county judge Barbara Canales SWITCHED to be AGAINST this permit. DO NOT BE FOOLED. She, her domestic partner & previous Port of CC attorney are IN BUSINESS with Sean Strawbridge who is still locally actively involved with pushing desal. She is an opportunist. #BANCANALES #NEVERFORGET

The QUICKEST WAY to put a halt to all of this, is ELECT NEW REPRESENTATION IN NOVEMBER.

Let's keep fighting the good fight guys! This isn't over yet. We need your help!!
